Weclome to the summary of the
three competitions at Chicstar.com - collaborative collections. ChicStar have
been offering competitions for years now so it's tried and tested and has
evolved with community changes/suggestions. Registration is free and worldwide.
COMPETITION 1 -
Submit your original designs
Objective
This is the main competition
on the site, there is no deadline and everyone, professional or not, is welcome
to submit as many of their designs as they want at any time. If approved for
entry you will receive and email and your designs will be displayed for
community voting for a period of up to 15 days.
Prizes 1st
'round'
Voting over, Chicstar decides
which designs are 'Accepted' to make prototypes of which will later go to
auction. Designers of 'Accepted' designs can choose between receiving a
prototype in their size or $50, and they can wait until after the auction has
finished to choose.
Prizes 2nd 'round'
After the auction, Chicstar
will choose some of the designs as 'Winners' to incorporate into their
production range. The winning designers receive $1000 and their name or chosen
signature on the label.
How to Submit a
design
The Blue button on top of the
website that says 'Submit a Design for a free prototype and win $1000 cash' will
take you to the submission form page with the rules, instructions and
guidelines. If you are a member your details will already be filled in i.e.
name, email; if not then you can fill them in manually. If your design is
Accepted for auction, when the prototype is ready and ChicStar place it on the
'Protos' page (see Competition 2 for more details), it will also be displayed alongside
all of the other prototypes.
Please note
- all styles are welcome but there is a preference for rockabilly, retro, pinup
and goth. Also, it is better to try and use fabrics/colours/prints already on
the site. You can view all designs via the 'designs' buttons on the homepage or
very top most menu. There are lot of designs in the history as this is a
popular competition!
COMPETITION 2 -
Alter someone else's prototype
Objective
This competition is specifically based on the prototypes already made from
accepted designs. When a designer submits an original design in Competition 1
above they are asked whether they allow others to alter their work. If they agree,
after the auction for their prototype is finished, the word 'Alter' will appear
under their prototype on the Proto page. Only the prototypes with 'Alter'
written underneath them are eligible to be altered. Again, anyone, professional
or not, can submit alterations but they must be drawn directly onto the photo
of the prototype for clarity's sake.
Prizes
If your alteration is accepted
a prototype will be made and go to auction. Neither you nor the original
designer will receive a proto or $50 but you can bid on the auction.
However, if the alteration is chosen as a Winner to go into
production and be a part of the clothing range both you and the original
designer will receive $500. The alteration competition is especially good for
giving protos you loved a second chance at winning.
How to Submit an
Alteration
The 'Protos' button in the
menu will take you to the proto display page which shows every proto ever made,
upcoming protos for auction and currently auctioning protos. Look through the
protos and find the ones you want to alter, make sure they have 'Alter' written
underneath them. You have to submit each alteration from their own page,
there isn't one form for them all. So for each alteration go to each individual
proto page and press the Blue button that says 'Share $1000 with the designer
by altering the proto, click for more details.' That will take you to the
instruction/submission form. If you are a member your details will already be
filled in i.e. name, email; if not then you can fill them in manually. Alterations approved for entry will go up for
community voting but as with Competition 1, Chicstar has the final say.
NOTES ABOUT
COMPETITION 1 & 2
Make use of the 'Add to wish list'
link on the design and proto pages, the more wish lists designs are on, the
better their chances. Your 'Wish List' is accessed via the 'My Account' page.
Auctions run weekly alongside
the Photo contest. Multiple auctions run at one time, usually 2 or 3 prototypes
up for auction each week, they begin and end on Fridays - remember the end date
and time just in case you forget to bid! You can check on all of your bids in
your 'Bid History' located under 'My Account'. Please note that the bidding is
not incremental/proportional such as on eBay, the amount you enter is the
amount you bid, so can either enter your max bid and hope for the best or bid
in small amounts over time.
COMPETITION 3 -
Post a Photo
Objective
The point of this competition
is to see how ChicStar clothing and designer prototypes look on different
people. It's a weekly competition that beings/ends every Friday. You can submit
any amount of photos (but best not to flood the entries lol) you want on any
day of the week but if there are too many photos for one week yours might be
carried over for the next week.
Prizes and
cash-back
The photo competition is
unique in that you always get awarded for your efforts. Firstly, if your photo
is accepted into the competition you automatically receive $10. Secondly, if you win the Chicstar weekly competition (yay!) you will
win $100 and have your photo featured on the homepage for a week - known as
'Chic Star of the week'. The $100 award is additional to the previous
payments.
How to Submit a
photo
The Purple button at the top
of the website which says 'Post your Photo to get $10 credit and $100 cash' will
take you to the photo instruction/guideline/submission form.
GENERAL
INFORMATION
The homepage features all the
menus, Chic Star of the Week, currently running auction Protos, some of the
Designs, some of the Photos, and the latest comments in the 'Forum'. The Forum
section is not a normal forum, it is basically all of the comments throughout
the site aggregated in chronological order.
All money prizes are
credited to your account; you can view all the details under 'Balance Report'.
You can either spend the money on site as credit for your orders or withdraw
the money to your Paypal account, $100 minimum to withdraw, or if you have
enough you can spend a bit and withdraw a bit.
Each member has their own
profile - an 'about you' page that is automatically updated with your designs
and photos. It can be accessed via anywhere that has your name i.e. on your
designs, photos or comments; anyone can click your name, including yourself,
and can see your profile.
Please note that I do
not work for ChicStar, I'm just a member of the community so any official
questions should be made to them through the 'Contact us' section of the
website.
As with all competitions, read
the Terms and Conditions before you enter.
Enjoy!
